A standard tubular deadbolt is the simplest case: a separate round lock above the handle, a 2-1/8-inch cross-bore, and a bolt that slides from the door edge. Most full-replacement smart deadbolts are designed around this layout. Confirm the measured backset and door thickness, then compare the product template before ordering.

A retrofit smart lock is often the better answer when the exterior keyed cylinder and interior thumb-turn are part of a well-fitted, compatible deadbolt. These products replace only the inside turner, preserving the outside appearance and avoiding a new exterior keypad or cylinder.
